Gerard (Gerry) Kevin Daney, 63, of Romansville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18th, 2024. Born in Wilmington on March 24th, 1960, Gerry was one of nine children of the late Leo and Josephine (née Reed) Daney.
A graduate of Saint Mark’s High School, Gerry had a long and successful career in I.T., including twenty-nine years with Siemens and five years with Paradise Energy Solutions, all while maintaining his own web design business. He enjoyed unwinding down the shore in Ocean City, NJ, relaxing by the pool at home, exploring back roads by bike, and cheerfully joking with all those around him.
Gerry is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his “first wife” of 36 years, Susan (née Dyson) Daney; his children, Evan Daney and wife, Julianne Kmetzo, Aileen Daney and husband, Jack Cebe. In addition, he is survived by family members Mary Szewczyk, Lee and Ferne Daney, Eileen and Pat Carzo, Theresa and Dave Woodruff, Kevin and Colette Daney, Patricia Widmayer, Jeff Thackara, Maureen and Terry Houlahan, and eleven nieces and nephews. Gerry is predeceased by his sister, Karen Thackara, brother-in-law, Jeff Widmayer, and step-mother, Eleanor Daney. Alongside his immediate family, Gerry's passing has created a profound absence in the lives of numerous cherished friends.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, March 27th, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friends and family are also invited to gather, share memories, and swap stories at a luncheon at 12:45 p.m. at the Deerfield Country Club, 507 Thompson Station Rd., Newark, Delaware. Interment of Gerry’s ashes will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF) at www.netrf.org. Please consider donating before March 31st to double the impact during a special Thrivership Drive designed to provide neuroendocrine cancer patients with education resources.
Gerry asked that all who remember him have fun, eat candy, and spread joy.
